- My Top 10 Trios of All-Time (original members — for now!)
1. Cream — Baker, Bruce, & Clapton — “Crossroads–Live”; “White Room,” and “Sunshine of Your Love”– Enough said!
2. The Jimi Hendrix Experience — two words: “Purple Haze” 🟣 Lefty could play some guitar 🎸 strings; the same can be said about the guy in first group, E.C.– are they #1 & #2, and, which order?
3. Bee Gees -- The Gibb Brothers (plus, Andy was no slouch). Have Any others flawlessly gone from the Rock Pinnacle to the top of the Disco Mountain? "Massachusetts" to "Night Fever."
4. ZZ Top — Rest in Peace ✌️ — Dusty Hill — Where’s Frank Beard’s Beard? Billy Gibbons — “best” long Beard ever! La Grange”& “Tush.”
5. The Supremes — No music 🎶 list can be complete without “Motown.” Thank you, Berry Gordy! Diana, Flo, and Mary may just be #1 female group ever…”You Can’t Hurry Love.”
6. The Police — Sting, Summers, and Copeland, I think they had a fourth member, a female they called, “Roxanne.” Care to guess what Sting’s real name is? Check at the end of list for the answer.
7. The Isley Brothers — second “bro” group on the list. O’Kelly, Jr., Rudolph, and Ronald literally had a fourth member for a short stint…one really good guitar player (he’s on this list). Take a guess…answer at bottom.
8. Grand Funk Railroad — Don Brewer, Mel Schacher, & Mark Farner. aka “Grand Funk” — They sold out Shea Stadium faster that a Foursome Band. Who do you think? At the end. “We’re An American Band.”
9. Green Day — Another Billie on the list– Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and John Kiffmeyer. One of my favorite songs ever: “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” American Idiot was adapted for the stage on Broadway in 2010. Heady stuff!
10. The Crickets — the fabulous Buddy Holly, Jerry Allison, and Joe B. Mauldin. Of all the groups, this was my first experience with Rock n’ Roll. Formed in 1957. What song was written/sung by Don McLean about Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) concerning 1959.
Answers for Above:
6. Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner 7. Jimi Hendrix — in 1964. 8. John, George, Paul, & Ringo 10. “American Pie” (‘The Day the Music Died’) Plane Crash.
